Is it worth buying a tablet pc for what I have to do?

I wanted to see movies, even HD movies, on the tablet pc so that I can put it on my lap while I'm on the couch or on my bed. Is it worth it? What are the advantages and disadvantage of tablet pc? And also, they don't get warm, do they?
